SUPREMO

Everyone wants a piece of Supreme. From Nike, The North Face, Levi's and Louis Vuitton, the latest designer to fall under their streetwear spell is haute fashion house Jean-Paul Gaultier, known for his couture creations and cone bodices. The unlikely pairing have created a socially charged collection of bold prints and anti-racism slogans, gender-fluid fur pieces and '90s buckle belts. Fitting then that Madonna's daughter Lourdes is fronting the campaign as Gautier famously designed the queen of pop's costumes for her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour...

The man himself said of the collaboration to Australian Vogue: "I have been including elements of sportswear in my collections from the very beginning, it has been one of my codes and my obsessions, I even developed a line 'Junior Gaultier' at the end of the 1980s [with that focus]. With Supreme, this inspiration will find its way to a new generation." Jean-Paul Gaultier burst onto the fashion scene in 1976 with a decadent collection that would define him as the enfant terrible of French fashion. Never one to play by the rules, he challenged norms by using unconventional models and promoting man-skirts. His Fight Racism range of the '90s is a huge inspiration for his collection with Supreme.

Supreme are no strangers to collaborations. Having joined forces with everyone from Nike, The North Face and Louis Vuitton, the 1994 skateboard shop's magnetism from functional brands to luxury fashion houses shows no signs of abating. The appeal may come from the label's cult following as well as the limited amount of product, as revealed by a collector in Vice: "In some regards, what makes people want to buy Supreme is the competitive, social aspect - to be able to go out in public and feel like you're less likely to be wearing clothes that everyone else is wearing."
