GUCCI POP
I am a bit late to the party (quite literally) but Iggy Pop as the new face of #GucciCruise20 has got to be the greatest fashion endorsement since KEANU REEVELED AS THE NEW FACE OF SAINT LAURENT...
Conceived as a decadent '70s shindig where you are invited to #ComeAsYouAre_RSVP, the fun campaign video shot in Rome by acclaimed film director Harmony Korine features the 'Godfather of Punk' in his signature shirtless look, rapper Gucci Mane clad in a clashing turquoise shirt and striped green tracksuit and actress Sienna Miller who is seen having a whale of a time in a white and gold fur coat. The creative direction stays true to the brand's disco, Hollywood glamour and real-life vibe that have been so prominent under the wing of Alessandro Michele. I suddenly have a new found love for GUCCI...
The key messages of the collection are ones of freedom (the guests are all dressed how they wish whether that be in glamorous embellished pieces, colourful mismatched prints, religious habits or red Mickey Mouse jumpers), inclusivity (the rock star, the rapper, It girls and older generation all coming together to enjoy themselves) and Ancient Rome (the debaucherous evening set by Villa La Furibonda hints at the historical inspiration behind the garments that went on show at the city's Musei Capitolini in May...)

From Roman Gods to Rock Gods, this is not the 🎵Real Wild Child🎶's first foray into fashion. In 2015 the Stooges frontman narrated a bold H&M ad as part of the label's garment-collecting initiative to encourage people to recycle their clothes even before it was trending. Prior to that, the singer starred alongside model Daisy Lowe for Eleven Paris's Fall/Winter 2012 range and in 2014 with Blondie's Debbie Harry for Paco Rabanne's Black XS Be A Legend. Most notably, the star wore a cocktail dress and carried a Dior handbag for a shoot in T Magazine by Swedish photographer Mikael Jansson. The pictures subsequently appeared in the image-maker's photo book alongside the musician's memorable quote: 'I’m not ashamed to dress "like a woman" because I don't think it’s shameful to be a woman.' It appears Iggy was gender bending way before it became a movement...
Most recently, the artist appeared on the Jonathan Ross Show clad head to toe in Gucci to talk about his relationship with David Bowie, his eighteenth studio album Free and what he gets up to on his days off. His healthy appearance makes a positive change from this hilarious video form 2007's Caprices Festival where he talks about hating techno 😂
The icon's new collaboration is the stuff of genius minds and has most certainly given the label a profoundly cooler edge by opening it up to a new audience of rock 'n' roll lovers. The 🎵No Fun🎶 star arrived on set shirtless and when asked by the camera man: 'And what’s been your role on the shoot, are you like a guest at the party? Iggy replies: “Well, yeah I’m Iggy Pop.”
